Quarantine Chronicles: Separate, But Together

I have never been a fan of the open floor plan, but hey, you are talking about someone who wants their own secret home lounge. It’s no far fetched prediction that due to the pandemic homebuyer trends are changing. I’ve already seen some clients wanting more formal dining rooms and office space areas. I believe the home office is here to stay and will become a desirable feature buyer’s are looking for. Nobody is taking about nurseries much either. I have a feeling there will be a baby boom a comin’ and couples will be in need of additional space to accommodate that new family member.

Ask yourself, when we were entertaining (remember those days?), where do most of your people congregate? Kitchens, right? I’m seeing more homes that include a “hang out” area off of the kitchen so you aren’t necessarily in the cook’s way, but still a part of the conversation. I also like a formal dining room. I feel open concepts lend themselves to kitchen odors infiltrating my binge time, it’s less than desirable. We are going to see that the pandemic is teaching us how to talk to each other at home, and that while most people have been eating at their kitchen islands or in their living rooms, families are now coming together at the dinner table again.

And as we are learning to co-exist in a more frequent way, it is cause for more privacy. Separate living spaces, home workspaces, “get away” areas, and virtual classrooms are causing home buyers to look for more walls within their search criteria. Mama needs her wine den and her partner might need some meditative tinkering/craft/reading time space. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll have to buy a bigger house, it just means you’ll have to find one more thoughtful to catering to your new norms, whether working from home, holding home schooled classes or needing more seclusion and comfort. Open concepts don’t lend themselves to these occurrences and going back to more traditional floor plans will prove a better unit existence. So if you’re ready to make some changes to your current living situation, here are a few options on the market now that include walls and muffled calls.

Call me today for these or any showings! Happy to do virtual as well!
